PET Art
In 2013, I graduated from a three-hour creative educational program called PET Art.
I learned how to cut and burnish a pet bottle into the shape I need and then create a piece of jewelry - an earring or a brooch or also a Christmas decoration.
I was fascinated by how a piece of tan colored pet bottle looks like glass. After a few days, I had an idea in my head to make a chandelier out of these beautiful colorful pieces.
I had a metal structure-ball at home. It was enough to take the wire and tie the individual pieces together. I developed a technique on that metal structure, which I then used for lamps and chandeliers of various shapes.
The first order came from the theater in Brno and it was for lanterns for the Merchant of Venice play. They needed to be done quickly and we didn't drink that much mineral water and bottled water at home. At the same time, my philosophy was primarily to recycle pet bottles, not to promote sales. So the beginning was wild. I went in black clothes to go through recycling containers with pet bottles and also a few good souls organized a bottle collection for me at work. Later, I had so many of them in different colors that I had to figure out how to store them efficiently. That too was successful. I also wanted to figure out how to use all parts of a pet bottle, i.e. the lid, neck, body and bottom. Pet bottles started to be sold in many beautiful shades, even abroad they have a shop that is similar to bead or paint shops where you can find hundreds of different colored shades of recycled pet bottles. Collecting them became an obsession for me for a while.
I really enjoy the play of light, when different colors overlap and create another color, to play with their combination.
People ask me if it's worth all the work...yes, it's really time-consuming. The process involves washing, cutting, tanning, burning a hole, threading on wire, and tying with pliers to the structure, which is metal and galvanized. For me, this creation is a joy, I can relax with it, turn off my head and not worry about how much time passes. However, the truth is that one chandelier lasts about a whole week, and I'm counting that without creating a structure.
If you like the story of pet lamps and chandeliers and the creations themselves, you too can brighten up your home. Some of the chandeliers you see on my website are still available. The colors of the chandeliers and lamps are beautifully reflected on the walls of the rooms and create a warm atmosphere.
